V.S-Pinarayi stand off, disagreement in the seat sharing arrangement among CPM and its allies are only the secondary reasons that could be attributed to the setback suffered by left in the parliamentary elections 2009. Had it not been for the love of Shri Pinarayi for PDP, the left could not have suffered the setback of such a magnitude.
What happened in Kerala is not the success of UDF, but the failure of LDF. The credit for success of UDF should solely go to Shri Pinarayi’s love for PDP, as Team Umman Chandi has never been a dynamic opposition. Also Shri Ramesh Chennithala’s KPCC failed miserably to showcase the lack of governance in the state due to internal war in CPM.
CPM-PDP alliance failed to deliver as Pinarayi could not read the mindset of the majority of the impartial voters as well as that of the 'Hindu Left’. The majority of the people, both within and outside the party who have watched the activities of Maudani could not assign a liberal visage to him only because he has toned down his voice. Pinarayi Vijayan has misjudged PDP as representing majority of the Muslims in Kerala. The left by extending hands towards PDP has put its secular credentials under trial.

The Verdict 2009
The Indian voter has reposed their faith in congress led UPA as they have clearly identified that for all round development of India a stable government at the centre is quite necessary . The regional parties whom the people hitherto trusted could not deliver as they were busy bargaining for petty personal interests. The mandate to UPA clearly reflects the voters' deliberate attempt to keep at bay all those constraints coming in between a developing , secular democracy. The congress having a pan Indian presence should take the cue from the verdict and strive towards making India stronger.
